Lighting Design Consultancy

When to enlist the help of a Lighting Design Consultancy

The first distinction that I would like to make is that Electricians are able to install light fixings and they may, to some extent be experienced in positioning lighting and laying out light fittings. However, Electricians are not Lighting Design professionals. They are generally not skilled and experienced in designing lighting schemes. They don’t do it all day every day. Electricians are generalists whereas designers are specialists in their chosen field. Now that we have made that distinction we can explore where Light experts may be of use in making interiors look good whilst maintaining their functionality.

To answer the question about when we should recruit the help of a Lighting Design Consultancy – it depends on the specific project and may be dependent on who is in charge of the project. For example, if an Interior Design company has won a project then they may recruit the Light expert whereas if an Electrical Contractor is in charge then he or she will most likely be commissioned with hiring the designer and so on.

The designer will be sufficiently qualified to address all of the aspects of electrical, lighting design and specification. This includes safety & security, functionality, mood lighting, comfort and energy efficiency. There are many considerations and the experienced consultant will be well equipped with all of the knowledge and experience to produce and fit luminaires that are most suitable for any given application.

Designers are not “nice to haves” but rather essential elements of any interior or exterior design project whether it’s for a retail outlet, factory, church, landscaped garden, office space or any other building that requires a professional, energy efficient, legal, aesthetically pleasing and functional scheme of lighting.
