The art of creating elegant, applicable and sustainable lighting options for the home is a very interesting as well as a thought-provoking process. Lighting is an important element in home décor, because not only does it highlight your surroundings, it also enables you to perceive color and texture.

When you have spent some time choosing which fixture to purchase, what colors and accessories to blend, it’s now time to use these lighting options to help maximize their impact in your home. There are a lot of guidelines in creating lighting schemes, and the ides noted on this article will hopefully help add to your own ideas for creating attractive home lighting patterns and options.

Home Lighting Should Complement With A Home’s Existing Furnishings

The colors,as well as the other furnishing present in your living room and other rooms, should effectively complement each other perfectly. Once you’ve arranged the accessories to suit your preferences, and the furniture is deemed comfortable and attractive, what else is there to arrange or fix?

When you feel that the room still lacks the inviting atmosphere you imagined, think of the aspects that you failed to consider. According to home lighting experts, attractive, well-lit rooms most often combine the four types of lighting:

- Natural lighting includes sunlight, candlelight and fireplace light. The quality of natural light however varies, depending on the time of day, weather, season and the room’s location.

- Ambient or general lighting helps provide a safe and comfortable level of light.

- Task lighting supplies the intense directed light needed for detailed work.

- Accent lighting helps highlight interesting features in your home’s decor.

What To Take Note when Planning About Home Lighting

Here are some helpful hints to take into consideration as you plan the lighting throughout your home. Whenever your deciding on the lighting options for a room, consider these concerns like, What kind of mood should they create?, what type of activities take place in the room?, and what decorative elements do you want to attract attention?

Generally, to create an inviting atmosphere, the experts suggest using three to five light sources in every room. To simplify your decorating options, there are home lighting designs and items available with the same finish and style for chandeliers, wall-mounted sconces, pendants, floor and table lamps. Using the lighting fixtures from the same collection within a single room will help to create a more unified look.

To make your rooms look more interesting, vary the height of the light sources in the room. The differing height patterns will help to add depth and glow, by creating separate areas of light and shade. Usually in most rooms, you need to allow for varying intensities of light. You could do this by adding dimmer switches or three-way bulbs in lamps. It’s also good to have alternate switching patterns between general lighting, task lights, lamps and accent lighting.

For instance, while you are preparing for a dinner party, you’ll need task lighting instead of accent lighting, However, when your guests arrive, you’ll probably want to be able to switch off the task lights and turn on the accent lights. You should also remember that since darker colors absorb light, you’ll probably need to use more lighting in rooms decorated with dark colors than rooms with light colors.

Green, Eco-Friendly Lighting Options

In todays eco-conscious and earth-friendly lighting markets, as the focus on living “greener” has become the popular ideal, more consumers are demanding, and receiving, lighting options that are energy efficient for home interiors.

From energy-saving light bulbs to lighting materials produced with the least amount of negative environmental impact possible, many manufacturers and designers are responding with earth-friendly fixtures for ecology-conscious consumers. However, there need not be a compromise on style, either, as some of the most elegant and desirable lighting fixtures are the most visually appealing as well.

http://goldenageusa.com – Golden Age USA

By: Vanessa A.

Using bedroom interior designs are becoming more and more popular because people are realizing the power of using a good interior design.

Also you know that we spend most of our life in the bedroom, because it is where we sleep in and also rest or even work sometimes. So the design it has will have a big effect on our mental and physical health.

Here are some important factors to bring to attention in your bedroom interior design…

1. Lighting:

Light has a very huge impact on your mood and energy when you are in your bedroom. For example, have you noticed you feel more active and energetic during day time when sunlight is still there?

Well, it is because light increases your energy. On the other hand, at night we mostly feel we need to relax and not be super active.

So the lighting you use in your bedroom interior design, how much it is, and also the color of it is very important.

2. Wallpapers and Floors

The color and design of your walls and floor is also another effective factor.

3. Objects and Furniture

The furniture you put in your bedroom – like your bed, desk, decorations, etc. – has a big effect on the look and feel of your bedroom.

So by following all the three important factors, you can easily create the mood and interior design that you wish in your bedroom.

Also the mood that you want to give to your bedroom is very important too and you should choose all the colors and objects based on that. For example for a romantic room and interior design, you can use red colors in the floor or walls.

By: Alex C Johnson

For our planet the sun is a major lighting source. The light which
we receive on earth varies in intensity and quantity depending
upon the geographical location on earth.

For normal human activities inside the building what we require is
indirect light. There is a major difference between direct and
indirect light. Direct light from the sun produces light in
high quantities but also generates a lot of heat, which may not
be required or at sometimes can be uncomfortable.

Indirect lighting produces a good quality diffused light by eliminating
the heat that’s being produced from sunlight.
Interior designers always look for various ways that will increase
the chances of achieving good quality sunlight into a room.

the basic principle behind indirect lighting is easy. Obstruct
the direct sunlight on a surface that will absorb the heat and
throw our or disperse the light alone uniformly inside the room.

This requires a good study of various light entry points of a
given room and selecting surfaces that will receive direct sunlight.
Then applying finishes to these materials that will absorb the heat but
at the same time reflect a lot of light to the interiors.

There is a major challenge in doing this.

Let’s say that I select a bedroom to be treated for indirect lighting.
I select a plane wall opposite or adjacent to the window opening that
will receive direct sunlight. If I paint the wall with a bright
color, it will definitely reflect the light in the entire room, but
at the same time create a “glare” that can be quite uncomfortable
for the users.

So just creating reflecting surfaces is not the solution. The
surfaces that will reflect the direct light and at the same time
won’t produce a glare are recommended here.

This can be easily achieved using artificial lighting. The greatest
advantage of artificial lighting is that you can select the number
of light sources in the first place. Then light sources can be very creatively be hidden using shaders and other design elements, so that
the light spots can be directed towards reflective surfaces.

A very common use of this technique is, project the light spots on
a bright reflective ceiling and the ceiling will uniformly disperse
the light in the rest of the room. Projecting the light on ceiling
will eliminate the problem of causing glare, since the ceiling is always above the normal eye level.

Using a centralized light source on the ceiling and throwing the light
on adjacent walls is also a good solution. This will also save a lot
of wiring lengths, cutting your cost in the fixing up of the total
electrical system.

A careful choice of reflective surfaces inside a room can greatly
enhance the light qualities in a room. In interiors there are hundreds
of objects that receive light. Objects such as walls, furniture
ceiling, floor will have a tendency to reflect light away from them.
Objects like windowpanes, glass panels in the furniture will
absorb or will allow the light to pass away the light thought them
b reducing the heat and intensity of light.

That’s why careful selection of materials during design stage can
cause a good lighting solution. Also the lighting solution will
differ from room to room depending upon which direction the
room faces outwards. For this the sun path must be taken into
consideration. By careful study of the sun path it will be easy to
decide the color schemes and finishes for satisfactory result
in indirect lighting.

I hope this article was helpful to everyone.

Copyright Shrinivas Vaidya

By: Shrinivas Vaidya

Dear Friends,

Light is an essential part of our daily activities. Just like
we need air, water and food to survive we need light in
order to function efficiently.

Gone are the days when people used to stop working after
sunset. The invention of electricity has made life easier and
has helped to improve efficiency.

The use of light in interior spaces greatly affects the environment
and “mood” inside the space. Here are some of the aspects
that can be considered while lighting an interior space.

1) Natural light:

The Sun is the biggest source of light available on our planet. We all are dependant on it. Sunlight is not only required to function but is also responsible for biological balance of
the Earth. Sunlight also keeps the air clean by killing any
possible bacterial attacks which might be harmful to health.

It is normally assumed that sunlight can penetrate inside a space for about 7 feet (approximately 20 meters). If the architect has taken proper care during planning of the structure, then sunlight can be a very good and free source of
ight.

2) Artificial filler lights:

These types of lights work on electricity and are required mostly at the night times. But this is not always true. There are some geographical locations where the weather is cloudy for most months in a year.

At such times filler lights in the form of fluorescent tube lights. These types of light are used to create the same effect that the sunlight would create. As the name suggests. these types of lights “fill” the space evenly with light, eliminating any dark spaces.

3) Special lighting for special spaces:

Special lighting is required at spaces where it is necessary to create a “mood” or special “ambience” inside a space. To achieve this use of color is done. Lighting fixtures like spot lights are used which divert the attention of the crowd at certain focused areas.

These kind of techniques are also used in commercial showrooms, to enhance the importance of the display areas. If you have visited car shows, exhibition pavilions, you will see this kind of lighting extensively used.

Special type of lighting requires more number of light fixtures,
because the area they cover is very limited.

4) Extreme lighting:

This type of lighting is used in spaces where the activities have a special purpose, such as movie studios, pubs, dance floors, etc.. Here the lighting used can be of movable types,
or can have more sophisticated controls such as intensity, color, movement, controlled through music beats.

The above discussion shows, how the activities happening inside
a space directly affect the type of lighting used inside a space.
A properly planned lighting plan can greatly enhance the quality
of a space.

I hope this article was useful.

Copyright 2005 Shrinivas Vaidya

By: Shrinivas Vaidya
